Week 10

BREAKING NEWS: There will be NO school on Monday, November 11th for Remembrance Day.

In LITERACY we continued to learn how to edit our own work and even began to peer edit! We learned all about Remembrance Day and wrote about what Peace means to us.

Our sight words for next week will all be question words as we will be learning the difference between a question and a statement!

Sight Words:

What
Where
When
Why
How

In MATH we have continued to work on building number sense up to 100 and focused on increasing patterns! We were given complex patterns to extend and repeat and recorded our pattern rules.

In SCIENCE we continued to use the scientific method to explore how heat changes food. Ms. Meier had a big problem trying to keep her pancakes warm while Hudson distracted her in the kitchenWith our previous knowledge about insulation, we built and constructed devices to keep our food warm!

We learned that some materials make more sense to keep the hot air in and cool air outWe then tested our creations to see if they were good heat insulators for our pancakes! THEY WORKED! YUM!

See Ms. Meier’s original pancake problem in the YOUTUBE link below.

In SOCIAL STUDIES we continued our inquiry on Calgary in the Past by focusing on Calgary's Indigenous Communities. We learned about what a Talking stick is and how many Indigenous communities use them as a way of respect to the speaker during a community circle. We are going to create our own classroom talking stick using the materials we gathered from the land.
