Welcome to Week 4 of Grade 2. Can we get a WOO?

It's been a busy few weeks getting back into the swing of things in our classroom community. It was so wonderful to see you all at conferences. We hope you are all enjoying home reading and Raz Kids.

In the classroom, we have been working hard to learn the value of RESPECT and how to follow the Saddle Ridge School rules: I respect myself, I respect my friends, and I respect my school.

In LITERACY we have also been learning how to identify nouns and use them in our writing. We also learned how and where to use a comma when writing letters!

What is a noun? Everybody sing! A noun is a person, place or thing!

We also helped Ms. Meier choose a dog to foster. We learned that there are lots of dogs who need someone to take care of them while they wait for their FURever homes. We researched the dogs available to foster at AARCS (Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society) to choose which one was the best choice for Ms. Meier. We then wrote her letters (using the comma for the first time!) to tell her which dog she should choose, and how she would need to care for it.

Ms. Meier would like to thank the students for their amazing letters. Please welcome PeeBee, Ms. Meier's adorable new foster dog!

Our sight words for next week are:
-they
-people
-laugh
-because
-family

In MATH we have been working hard on building our number sense up to 100! This week we are exploring and learning how to use a hundreds chart to count by 2s, 5s, and 10s.

A hundreds chart

In SCIENCE we have become meteorologists. We have been checking the daily temperature and filling in a thermometer. We have also been helping Ms. McBride and Ms. Meier make important life decisions based on the weather reports, such as helping them decide when to get their winter tires put on.

In SOCIAL STUDIES we began our inquiry on Calgary in the Past by exploring real artifacts from Canada's past! We examined each artifact like real archeologists, and tried to explain the function of each object. It was so cool to see how some objects have changed over time.

Have a wonderful weekend and thank you for growing with us,
-Ms. Meier and Ms. McBride
