Week 9

Hope you all had a happy and safe Halloween!

In LITERACY we continued using adjectives to make our writing more interesting. We created monsters and wrote detailed sentences using as many adjectives as we could!

We also continued to practice editing by looking for capitals, punctuation and misspelled sight words in our teacher's morning message and in our own writing as well!

WEEKEND WRITING CHALLENGE: See if you can retell one of your favourite books using at least 10 adjectives!

Our sight words for next week:

In MATH we have continued to work on building number sense up to 100 and focused on shapes! We were so excited for each group to have their very own pumpkin and decided to use our pumpkins for EVERYTHING! We learned how to measure weight, length, and made estimations about how many pumpkin seeds each pumpkin would have!

Using some of our different math tools, we counted our pumpkin seeds by 2's, 5's and 10's! Some of our pumpkins had over 500 seeds!

After we finished counting, we collaborated with our groups and as a team brainstormed face shapes we could carve into our pumpkin!

In SCIENCE we continued to use the scientific method to explore how heat changes food! We learned that heating different food can be essential to kill bacteria and germs that may exist in our food. When we heat our food, it can make it easier for our bodies to digest and easier for our mouths to chew and make our meals taste better!

See our YOUTUBE VIDEO below to learn from Scientist Ms.Meier and Ms.McBride on how important cooking some of our food can be!

We created an experiment and posed the question, "How will heat change our pumpkin seeds? We recorded our own predictions and further observed how the heat made our pumpkin seeds safe and yummy to eat!

In SOCIAL STUDIES we continued our inquiry on Calgary in the Past by focusing on Calgary's Indigenous Communities. We read the story Everybody Needs a Rock by Byrd Baylor and followed the steps in the book to picking our own special rock!

We took our time to pick a stone that felt right to us and then made them unique by adding designs and pictures that are important to us.

Thanks for blogging with us!
WOO!

Have a wonderful weekend!
