Week 15

Welcome back, Grade Twos! We hope you all had a restful and wonderful winter break. We were so happy to see you all back and were so impressed with how quickly we settled back into our classroom routines 😊

In LITERACY we began exploring elements of stories. We read, watched, and listened to familiar stories. Then we talked and wrote about the various story elements, such as characters, setting, problem, and solution. We are very excited to begin writing our own stories!

Our sight words for next week are:
-right
-water
-use
-there
-they're

In MATH we have been exploring addition by practicing vertical addition with regrouping. We know that when adding double digit numbers we always start with the numbers in the ones column. If the sum is more than 10, like 8+7, we need to carry the ten over to the tens place. Then we add up all the numbers in the tens place, including the ten we carried over!

In SCIENCE we completed our inquiry on hot and cold. We explored the weekly weather reports and made predictions about how the changes in weather would affect our daily lives. We all predicted that Thursday would be an indoor lunch. We are all very excited to begin our inquiry on Water with Ms. Chaudhary next week.

In SOCIAL STUDIES we participated in a community circle to share about our winter break, and the people we spent time with who filled our hearts with joy. We also reflected on what those people did to make us feel happy, so that we can work towards spreading that same joy to others.

We continued our exploration of The Blackfoot First Nation by exploring the rich tradition of Indigenous storytelling. We learned about symbol stories, and like we can visit at at Writing-on-stone Provincial Park. We then created our own symbol stories on story blankets. They turned out beautifully and we are so proud of our hard work!

Thank you for growing with us!
-Ms. Meier and Ms. McBride
